Plyboo® is a relatively new product with specific qualities that are explored in this small design project. One of the interesting aspects of this material is the raw edge that reveals the interior ply. The first stool is assembled using mortise and tenon joinery with a simple wedge added as a back stop. By cutting and joining the wedge at an angle the interior grain of the wood, perpendicular to the exterior grain, is highlighted. The second seat shows an interesting transition of the grain along the edge of the circular seat pan. It is finished with three tapered legs joined through the top of the seat and linked to supports underneath. These seats explore detailing with Plyboo and make use of its the unique characteristics as a design element.
