RIVER TAXI STATION

YEAR:Fall 2013

SIZE:4100 SF

LOCATION:Long Island City, NYC

This was a quick project exploring fabric and tension structures. Long Island City is a quickly gentrifying neighborhood in Queens. To take advantage of this new interest, River Taxi Station was designed as a new hub for boat and small ferry service across the East River. The project is conceived as a lookout platform that is cantilevered over the water. Leading from this top level is a gently sloping deck that leads visitors down to the water and boats. The structure is covered by a canvas canopy stretching over the viewing platform and extending out to the edge of the floating docks.
